Ground Receiving Station (GRS) Services

Empowering Zambia’s Entry into the Space Era

The Ground Receiving Station (GRS) was established to meet the growing demand for Earth Observation (EO) data and to also strengthen Zambia’s role in the global space community.
The facility enables near real-time satellite image acquisition for a wide range of remote sensing applications, supporting data-driven decision-making across sectors such as agriculture, environment, and disaster management.

Once fully operational, the GRS will expand NRSC’s capacity to deliver earth observation products, advisory services, and specialized training, while also offering space-related commercial services that generate revenue and promote sustainability.

Our Key Services at the GRS will include:

  • Launch Support
Supporting local and international satellite launch missions, fostering Zambia’s growing space capabilities.
  • LEOP & TOS Support
Providing critical tracking and communication support during Launch and Early Orbit Phases (LEOP) and Transfer Orbit Support (TOS).
  • In-Orbit Testing (IoT)
Conducting satellite payload performance tests under ideal signal conditions for space agencies and operators.
  • Lifecycle Support (Emergency EO)
Delivering near-real-time imagery for emergency response and rapid decision-making during critical events.
  • Hosted Infrastructure
Offering hosting space for ground antennas and specialized equipment, generating additional service-based revenue.
  • Mission Control Support
Providing a platform for the operation and monitoring of locally developed satellites, advancing Zambia’s national space technology ambitions.

The Ground Receiving Station (GRS) strengthens Zambia’s capacity to acquire and process satellite data in real time. It serves as a national hub for Earth Observation, space operations, and innovation, positioning NRSC at the forefront of Zambia’s journey into the space era.
