Land Cover Assessment

This is an ongoing land assessment exercise conducted by the NRSC on parcels of land amounting to 100 hectares and above. The assessment is done by the use of satellite imagery and other supporting data sets. The purpose for this assessment is to check for the presence of human settlements, public facilities e.g. health centers, schools and any other socio-economic activities, such as crop fields. This is done in order to avoid displacement of human communities during the transfer of land from customary to state leasehold tenure. This is key to arriving at an informed decision.

In addition, the NRSC participates in both national and regional large scale mapping of land cover and land cover changes exercises from time to time.
